The American Revolution was the first conflict in history fought in the name of universal philosophy of law, constitutional rights, and self-government. Ketchum states, â€Å"It was the event that gave birth to our nation, bequeathed a common purpose to the most varied of peoples, and ignited a beacon of hope that inspires the oppressed to this day.† I believe the Revolutionary war was the most significant event in our nation’s history, stabilizing the United States for democracy. The outcome was the development of the Article of Confederation, The Constitution and recognition from Great Britain of the United States as an independent nation under the treaty of Paris. As a result, colonists were ad ept at controlling their own local government and grew more independent. The Revolutionary war was a direct result of decades of abuse and taxation tyranny over the colonist. The British parliament wanted to exert control over the colonist and felt that the colonist should pay for the British empires expenses through the Declaratory Act. Williams note, â€Å"The Sugar, Stamp, Townshend, and Quartering act, posed an immediate threat to the establish traditions of the colonial sovereignty†. The colonist resisted with physical violence and acts of hostility toward the British. Colonists were denied a place in the parliament therefore many colonists resented the British and wanted to become an independent state. Taxation without representation through the various acts imposed by Great Britain fueled the resentment of colonist, contributing to the Revolutionary war. The Klingon fleets are called the Gallron and the Alpha Flight,and the two Federation fleets are called the Democracy and the Evolution. Ifall goes well all we need to do is box the Romulans in. We launched what I callthe Picard Jack-In-Box Strategy in less then 23 hours. Star date 32937.1: All is not well we hit a snag with my Strategy. TheCardasens made a surprise attack on the Gallron fleet and destroyed all 13 ships,including Gallrons ship. With the death of Gallron the Klingon leader, itwill be near impossible to control the last remaining Kilngon battle fleet,Alpha Flight. I now have even a bigger problem than the loss of the fleet. Thebox had collapsed, and when there was an opening, the Romulans and theCardasens escaped through it and now they are headed for earth ( the heart ofthe Federation ) with the Metagenic Device. I cant help but be afraid for allthose life forms, over 20 trillion life forms that live in the Earths SolarSystem. There are 9 trillion life forms on Earth alone. Hes rational in his actions and careful when dealing with Teddy. Furthermore, a person with a superego personality has a good set of morals in every situation. In the beginning of the film, Teddy Daniels is driven by his morals of good and bad. He chases a life where he seeks justice for the murder of his wife. From the moment Teddy enters the island his goal is to find the missing prisoner. As the movie progresses, he tries harder to solve this mystery even though, he keeps finding less evidence. This allows him to keep making up new reasons to live as Teddy Daniels, and not confront his truth. Andrew Laeddis can never live with himself knowing that he is a murder. Based on the observations from the film, Teddy Daniels has strong moral values. Its ironic how he immorally kills his wife and now lives in a fantasy where he is driven by his morals. Even when we see Teddy come to his senses he remains in his fantasy world, not being able to live with himself as a killer. This is the superego still in effect, which dominates his mind. To conclude, Shu tter island is an excellent example of Freuds theory of psychosis. Dolores has an id personality because she is irrational and irresponsible. Dr. Sheehan has an ego personality because he is rational and has a reasonable answer for everything. Executive Action Versus Presidential Orders The use of executive actions by the president of the United States came under intense scrutiny during Barack Obamas two terms in office. But many critics misunderstood the definition of executive actions and the difference with legally binding executive orders.   Obama issued  dozens of executive actions designed to prevent gun violence in January 2016, fulfilling one of his primary agenda items. Many of the media reports mistakenly described the policy proposals as official executive orders, which are legally binding directives from the president to federal administrative agencies. The Obama administration, however, described the proposals as executive actions. And those executive actions- ranging from universal background checks on anyone trying to buy guns, restoring a ban on military-style assault weapons, and cracking down on straw purchases of guns by people whose intention is to resell them to criminals- carried none of the weight executive orders carry. The following explains what executive actions are and how they compare to executive orders. Executive Actions Versus Executive Orders Executive actions are any informal proposals or moves by the president. The term executive action itself is vague and can be used to describe almost anything the president calls on Congress or his administration to do. But many  executive actions carry no legal weight. Those that do actually set policy can be invalidated by the courts or undone by legislation passed by Congress. The terms executive action and executive order are not interchangeable. Executive orders are legally binding and published in the Federal Register, though they also can be reversed by the courts and Congress. A good way to think of executive actions is a wish list of policies the president would like to see enacted. When Executive Actions Are Used Instead of Executive Orders Presidents favor the use of nonbinding executive actions when the issue is controversial or sensitive. For example, Obama carefully weighed his use of executive actions on gun violence and decided against issuing legal mandates via executive orders, which would have gone against the legislative intent of Congress and risked enraging lawmakers of both parties. Executive Actions Versus Executive Memoranda Executive actions are also different from executive memoranda. Executive memoranda are similar to executive orders in that they carry legal weight  allowing the president to direct government officials and agencies. But executive memoranda are typically not published in the Federal Register unless the president determines the rules have general applicability and legal effect. Use of Executive Actions by Other Presidents Obama was the first modern president to use executive actions in lieu of executive orders or executive memoranda. Criticism of Executive Actions Critics described Obamas use of executive actions as an overreach of his presidential powers and an unconstitutional attempt to bypass the legislative branch of government, even though the most substantial of the executive actions carried no legal weight. Some conservatives described Obama as a dictator or tyrant and said he was acting imperial. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida who was a  presidential candidate in the 2016 election, said Obama was abusing his power by imposing his policies via executive fiat instead of allowing them to be debated in Congress. Republican National Committee Chairman and former White House Chief of Staff for President Donald Trump, Reince Priebus, called Obamas use of executive actions as an executive power grab. Said Priebus: He paid lip service to our fundamental constitutional rights, but took actions that disregard the 2nd Amendment and the legislative process. Representative government is meant to give voice to the people; President Obama’s unilateral executive action ignores this principle. But even the Obama White House acknowledged that most of the executive actions carried no legal weight. After all, why is it important that a concept as ethereal and abstract as love should have significance in the kitchen, a place supposedly reserved for preparing that which is necessary only to maintaining the physical body? This question can perhaps be best answered by the â€Å"little woman† named Harriet Beecher Stowe, in her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin – written before we even had refrigerators, much less magnets bearing heartwarming little proverbs. Whereas it may at first be overlooked, the description of different types of kitchens in Uncle Tom’s Cabin is in fact a recurring theme in the novel and not to be trivialized. On the contrary, Harriet Beecher Stowe uses the image of the kitchen to encompass one of the most pertinent aspects of her argument against slavery: that of the importance of the home and domestic life in the fight against oppression and injustice. An indoctrinated member of the infamous â€Å"Cult of True Womanhood,† an unofficial sisterhood designed to combat women’s lack of physical and political power by encouraging them to develop the power of influence, Stowe uses representations of the ideology of this alliance – whose central tenets are piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity – as weapons in her narrative battle against slavery’s evils. Finding meaning in Stowe’s use of kitchen imagery is not too difficult a task; her comparison of Chloe’s and Dinah’s kitchens shows the almost polar variations that can occur in slaveholding households, but the ultimate destruction that takes place in both homes proves that no matter how things may at first appear, tragedy will always be the result when slavery is at the core. The only way that true harmony can be achieved is through a system that is not based on slavery, as seen in the example of Rachel Halliday’s Quaker kitchen, where the scenarios of the other households are reversed, and the result is a hopeful end for the sufferer through the kindness of a fellow human being. Of Mice and Men has many themes presented by Steinbeck, one of which is about friendship. The novella shows the relationship between the protagonists, George and Lennie, and showing how they try to achieve the American Dream by working together. This is in contrast to many of the other characters who are alone by themselves which seems to be the norm at the time of the Great Depression. The reader is able to look at how the need to have a companion is portrayed by Steinbeck, especially during the harsh economic times that the story is set in.The reliance that George and Lennie have on one another is able to emphasise on how it is only the friendship between the two of them which allows them to survive. Lennie saying ‘I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you. ’ is underlying the true reliance that both George and Lennie have for one another. Lennie also sees his friend ‘he pulled his hat down more over his eyes the way George’s hat was. â €™ as a role model and sees him as guidance as to how to live his own life. George needs Lennie as much as Lennie needs George despite Lennie being the one who is mentally challenged and in need of constant supervising.Steinbeck also uses the character Lennie to refer to how it should society should be collectively looking after the vulnerable in society rather than George having to look after him by himself. Thus the reliance of each of the main characters on one another emphasises how important the friendship is in keeping both them and the novella together. Although most of the men have no true friends, they at least get to play cards and associate with others. Lennie, because of the colour of his skin and his friendship with George, cannot possibly understand Crooks' plight. George chooses to kill Lennie at the novel's end, realizing that Lennie could not stand the loneliness of being locked up in a prison or an asylum. This is also able to highlight the true friendship which is separated at the end which also brings an end to the novella.Thus the need for companionship, which is shown by other characters that are victimised within society, is emphasised as other strive for what George and Lennie have. What we were trying to determine was the amount of moles of copper and the amount of moles of iron in the chloride and in the nail.Procedure: 1. Put on your laboratory apron and safety goggles. Use a 100-mL beaker to make a solution with 2 grams of copper(II) chloride and 15-mL of distilled water.2. Use a stirring rod to make sure all of the copper(II) chloride crystals have dissolved.3. Obtain two clean, dry nails. Use a piece of sandpaper or emery cloth to shine the nails. Make sure that the nails can rest on the bottom of the beaker.4. Place the nails in the copper(II) chloride solution. Leave the nails alone for approximately 20 minutes. During that time, you should see the formation of copper in the beaker. At the same time, some of the iron will react.Copper(II) chloride5. Use tongs to pick up the nails, one at a time. Use the wash bottle to rinse any remaining copper from the nails before removi ng them completely. Set nails aside.6. Decant the liquid from the solid.
